It varies by species. On a perfectly level lawn on a weekly schedule:
- Bermuda: ~1–1.5 in.
- St. Augustine: ~2–4 in.
- Zoysia: ~1–2 in.
Most lawns are not level and aren’t maintained weekly so we recommend 2.5-3 inches. Ideally, no more than one-third of the blade is removed at once to prevent yellowing.
We mulch clippings. This returns nutrients to your lawn, reducing annual nitrogen needs by up to 50%. Research shows clippings don’t cause thatch or disease.
For light rain, we usually proceed. Extremely wet grass isn’t ideal for turf health. We will notify you beforehand and adjust scheduling as needed.
Many possible causes—more than one third the blade length being removed at once, nutrient deficiencies, incorrect watering, thatch buildup, disease, etc. We recommend an on-site evaluation to determine the exact cause.
Uneven watering, sunlight variations, soil compaction, or nutrient differences can cause uneven growth. We can investigate if it’s a recurring issue.
When grass growth slows from December to February we focus on all the other areas of your yard:
- As-needed mowing, string trimming, edging
- Leaf cleanup maintenance
- Bed cleanups and edge touch-ups
- Light bush pruning and hedge shaping
- Light tree pruning from the ground
- General tidy and debris clean up
Also remember that occasional warm spells can wake up grass enough to grow, and if you’ve neglected winter care, you’re inviting weeds, debris buildup, and soil compaction. Upkeep during the colder months keeps everything in check.
Pricing factors include lawn size, condition, specific services, landscaping features, and frequency. Slopes, or heavy debris identified on the first visit may require a rate adjustment.
